Ann, here's a question that's been bugging me for some time. What role do keywords play now? I still feel like they are important and reinforce their use in title tags, body copy, etc. Are they of lesser importance than a focus on intent or semantic search?

I think keywords are still key (sorry for this wording ha!). I have just written an article on that too: https://www.practicalecommerce.com/how-google-uses-keywords As a summary, the process is important on many levels, but the actual optimization has somewhat changed

Not sure! Been writing for them for about two years now! I didn't know you were their writer once!

I was one of the initial writers when it was still a print publication. I wrote for them for 10 years, then Kerry offered me the managing editor role at a publication he aquired called Web Marketing Today. That pub was actually one of my very early influences so I was thrilled to take on the role. He shuttered it a year later due to lagging ad sales, however.
